Forward Microsystems Ltd. was formed in 1984 as a company to act as a design and consultancy service for microprocessor based systems. One of the first major projects was to design and supply control systems and software for Linvar vertical storage carousels (also known as paternosters). These started as simple microprocessor based single board controllers and have evolved to such an extent that they can now be made fully PC compatible and linked into large networks and main-frame computers. Forward Microsystem?s NETSTOCK software for providing efficient picking control is now installed at over 80 sites in the UK. These include many large corporates such as GEC and ICL. Besides this the company has undertaken many special software projects for carousel control. This includes a twenty-six machine installation at the Bristol & West plc controlling the storage of some 200,000 deeds.
Electrical and electronic design work ranges from high current contactor systems to small, single chip, embedded processors. We have successfully completed projects as diverse as miniature domestic steam bath controllers and a two Megawatt coal fired multi-boiler system for hospital heating. Our software engineers are well versed in both high and low level languages. With this flexibility, we have no difficulty in providing ingenious and extremely cost effective solutions to the majority of control and data handling problems. We also supply custom built PC's and specially designed PC interface cards for use in industrial control where they may be considered mission critical.
